How long have you been with your current company?
What is your official title/job description with your current company?
How would you summarize what your company does and why your clients choose you over the competition?
JDS is a triple-bottom-line architecture firm. Our clients tend to share our larger mission of trying to make a positive impact on the environment and our community as it relates to the built environment.
If you had to have a philosophy of life, what would it be?
Strive to be second-best: reap the benefits of being at the top without the pressure of being number one.
What's a productivity tool or app that you couldn't live without?
Pretty much anything that keeps track of financial things. I make good use of the Reminders tools on the iPhone, as well as Mint from Intuit.
Do you or your company do any work within the community in the form of charity, nonprofits, or just building up Tulsa?
I’m a pretty active member of Mosaic, which promotes diversity and inclusion and is run through the Chamber. Molly and I are also on a regional advisory board for the US Green Building Council, which advocates for environmental practices in the built environment. JDS has gone through a lot of change, even in the four months I’ve been here. I know we’ll be looking to grow our local participation as things settle down in the coming year.
What is one of your favorite books and why?
I don’t really have favorites. The last book I consumed was Malcom Gladwell’s Talking to Strangers. I’ve got Michelle Obama’s Becoming and Tara Westover’s Educated on deck for when I get some more down time.
Favorite movie and why?
At the moment it’s Frozen II because that’s the last one I saw.
What is a fun fact or story about you that most people that know you might be surprised to learn?
I’m allergic to fresh avocado, so I can usually tell if restaurant guac has been pre-made.
And lastly, what is one of your favorite things about being a member of the Root Coworking?
Cirque coffee, Bevi dispenser, Kegerator - the liquids?
