Billy Bumgarner is our May 2020 Member of the Month! Billy is the Director of Asset Management for PhoenixSouth Management, a Florida based real estate investment company. Billy attended Florida State University, and recently relocated from Tallahassee to Tulsa and is working remotely for his company. Be sure to check out our Q&A with Billy to get to know him a little better! How long have you been with your current company?
Second time with the company (family business), three years this time.
What is your official title/job description with your current company?
I am the Director of Asset management. Basically I try to find new investments, improve financing structures, and find ways to increase revenues.
How would you summarize what your company does and why your clients chose you over the competition?
We are an owner/operator of real estate. Primarily, we focus on multifamily but we have a few office projects as well. We hope our service makes the difference but the location is very important for most of our residents, as well as visibility in the market and reputation as a management company.
How has your business been impacted by COVID-19?
The biggest impact so far has been having two of our team members test positive and having about 70% of our team be quarantined for a few weeks as a result. Revenue was down some for April but not as bad as we feared or as many other businesses have felt. We expect revenue in May to drop more though.
If you had to have a philosophy of life, what would it be?
I try to stay optimistic. Henry Ford said this much better than I could, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."
What's a productivity tool or app that you couldn't live without?
I really like Trello for project management. And I use Foxit PDF Software everyday.
What is one of your favorite books and why?
Too hard to pick just one so I’ll recommend the book I am reading right now titled, “The Boys in the Boat”. It is about the U.S. Rowing team in the 1936 Olympics. It’s very good so far!
Favorite movie and why?
Cocktail... because who hasn’t wanted to run away to the islands and run a bar at some point in their life?
And lastly, what is one of your favorite things about being a member of the Root Coworking?
Having a consistent place to work really helps me. I also really like the quiet boxes (phone booths) and the general design.
